GAP Training for Growers with UMD Extension

The Prince George’s Soil Conservation District is sponsoring a GAP Training for Growers at the Prince George’s Soil Conservation District on February 25, 8am – 4:30pm in the District’s downstairs conference room. The class will be taught by UMD Extension’s Carol Allen. Check out UMD’s Produce Safety resources here.
Attending a basic GAP course may be right for you if…
- You grow fruits or vegetables and are interested in developing a good safety plan to increase operational efficiency and build a food safety culture.
- You want help in writing your food safety plan.
- You are looking to learn more about how microbes live and interact with farm environments, and/or
- You have a potential buyer that requires MD GAP certification.
What you’ll get from this training:
- Tips on how to implement practices to minimize your food safety risk during growing, harvesting, holding and packing fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Practice conducting risk assessments.
- Practice writing Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assistance on writing your food safety plan (aiming for 80% completion!)
- A Maryland Department of Agriculture GAP training certificate
Course logistics and registration information:
- The Basic GAP training will take ONE FULL DAY: Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 8am – 4:30pm
- Course materials including a Basic GAP training binder will be provided.
- You must attend the full day course to receive an MDA GAP training certificate.
- Morning snacks and lunch will be provided.
